NBC & the President's Management Agenda
Expand Electronic Government

The National Business Center is taking a strong leadership role in helping the Department move toward an E-Government environment. We believe that E-Government is a great tool for getting the Government closer to the citizen and the business communities as well as improving customer services. Even before the current focus on E-Government, the NBC was implementing paperless, web-based applications to help agencies reduce costs and streamline their internal business processes, allowing them to perform - over a secure web-base environment - tasks such as Credit Card Payment Processing and Electronic Invoicing.

There are four main segments of E-Government, and the NBC is involved in all of them.

  • Government to Citizen (G2C): The NBC is providing technical leadership for Recreation One Stop and Volunteer.Gov, two Citizen-centric projects within the Office of Management and Budget Task Force projects. The NBC actively ensures that all sites are compliant with accessibility standards.
  • Government to Business (G2B): The NBC is providing technical support and management involvement in G2B procurement activities: the Department of the Interior's (DOI) connection to FirstGov.Gov and FedBizOpps, allowing vendors to see and bid on-line on business opportunities. The NBC has also connected procurement, bidding, and invoicing activities to the Department of Defense's (DOD) Central Contractor Registration, interacting with DOD to cause vendors to be able to do business while registering only once, using open data-transfer technology.
  • Government to Government (G2G): The NBC is an active participant in the DOI-led Geospatial One Stop initiative, working with the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) so that Recreation One Stop and Volunteer-Gov will have a robust mapping capability that conforms to the future standards and directions of the Geospatial One Stop Initiative.
  • Internal Efficiency and Effectiveness (IEE): The NBC has volunteered two participants who attend weekly meetings of the Government-wide Internal Efficiency and Effectiveness work groups. The particular workgroups are developing e-catalog and other IEE data-exchange standard operating procedures.

The NBC will continue to be a catalyst and active developer of next-generation E-Government applications as we are committed to providing excellent services, innovative solutions, and state-of-the-art products to meet the ever-changing business needs of our customers.
