FPPS Datamart Services

The Federal Personnel and Payroll System (FPPS) Datamart is a state-of-the-art, web-based data warehouse environment supporting powerful reporting capabilities, system interfaces and automation of related business processes through auxiliary systems. The FPPS Datamart uses an Oracle database and modern analytical query tools. Hyperion Performance Suite, the query tool supported by the NBC, provides end users the ability to query, analyze, chart and report on data from the FPPS. The Datamart provides a library of over 150 preformatted queries, plus the ability to create and run ad-hoc queries. The preformatted queries enable every FPPS user to get timely information from the Datamart and produce reports. Agencies can use these pre-built queries or enhance them as they choose.

Modern query tools such as Hyperion allow managers direct access to FPPS data, which they can then analyze and report on, all from their desktop. The information contained in the Datamart can be extended to include agency-managed data such as Learning Management System information or e-mail addresses, for inclusion in reports and interfaces.

The NBC Datamart staff, drawing on their wealth of knowledge and experience, has developed a number of offerings that they believe would greatly benefit our customers, and they are as follows:

Inclusion of Agency Managed Data within the Datamart

Agencies can include their own data in the Datamart to for use in reports, and interfaces with other systems. Examples include the Learning Management System, Applicant Tracking System and e-Mail information.

Manage Agency Specific Reporting

The Datamart team offers consultation services with agency staff, and development of specialized queries (one time and/or recurring). In addition, the Datamart staff is available to analyze and evaluate the needs of a customer, provide advice, guide and/or assist them in developing Datamart products to meet those needs.

System Interfaces

By building an interface from an existing application into Datamart, an agency is then able to build themselves, or with the help of Datamart, a set of reports to fully utilize their data. This would allow them to discover how a specific application is being used, as well as to recover data stored within an application. Interfaces allow the Agency to use a tool they are already familiar with (Datamart) to pull out specific information.

Agencies can implement interfaces between the NBC and other applications through the Datamart. These interfaces can be managed and operated in multiple configurations, from the agency connecting to and retrieving the data to the NBC compiling the data and distributing for the agency. Examples of this include Learning Management Systems and other employee related systems.

Auxiliary Systems to Automate Business Processes

The FPPS data is available to FPPS users via Datamart; however, in many cases agencies may be able to better utilize this data if it was available in a specially built application separate from FPPS. We have the ability to build applications in-house that provide specific types of FPPS data for use by an agency to meet their particular requirements.

Agencies can automate specific business processes through Datamart based auxiliary systems. These systems reuse FPPS data and security. Examples of these include the Position Control System and the Intergovernmental Personnel Act (IPA) System originally developed for several FPPS clients. The Position Control System enables agencies to manage their staffing levels. The IPA system enables agencies to manage their contracts for incoming IPA positions.
